Lanier wants to go to London to do arbitration? What the fuck?

There’s a certain irony to a guy who’s made a fuck-ton of money from American juries deciding to go overseas to help companies who don’t want to go before American juries.

Houston's Lanier Law Firm is bullish on international arbitration work, particularly because the plaintiffs firm sees an advantage to handling it on contingency.

The 40-lawyer firm announced that Los Angeles office managing partner Dana Taschner, along with founder Mark Lanier, would lead the four-attorney group.

Taschner says it's not an entirely new arena for Lanier lawyers, who he says have seen an increase in the number of international businesses that would rather not go before an American jury and of clients who want to keep a dispute private to protect their investors or stock price

Doesn’t Lanier have enough money already?  Oh, I bet I know why he’s going over there.  Over here, he has the taint of being a plaintiff’s lawyer.  No matter how good of a lawyer he is (a damned good one, btw), the elite over here will always look down on him for doing plaintiffs’ work.  But over there, he can start to build a reputation as a “real” lawyer who works for businesses.  May haps he’ll  even be allowed to join a chamber of commerce.  AND, he’ll get to wear one of those awesome white wigs.

Whatever.  I predict fail.
